Lacey and Larkin Empower Others for the Vision

The little good this world had left is eroding before our very eyes. The new rulers of this country are not politicians or people, but evil, tyranny, and dictatorship. As the world moves more Nationalist and totalitarian, we are watching as the equality of all humankind withers.

Perhaps we have seen this most prominently in the desecration of immigrant rights. Indeed, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have discovered this.

Michael and Jim are the owners of the Phoenix New Times And The Village Voice media. It was through these two channels that they broke the news of the awful crimes that Sheriff Joe Arpaio had committed. Maricopa County Sheriff, who the media proclaimed was America’s Toughest Sheriff, had committed what would be considered hate crimes against his fellow man.

His first crime was to encourage his police force to begin racially profiling the people in the state of Arizona. In addition to this, he provided incentives for any police officer who could convict an illegal immigrant. To make their life as much hell as he could, Sheriff Arpaio specifically would rig the jail cells to be unsanitary, dangerous, and disgusting for when the Latinos arrived. While it pains me to say this, he was so successful integrating those jail cells that many Latinos died because they spent time there.

When Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin heard of these crimes, they knew they had to do something. So they did what they could do, they published the report in the news. Read more: Jim Larkin | Crunchbase and Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund

When Sheriff Joe Arpaio discovered this, he was furious. He told all of his closest men that he planned to get revenge on Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. He would do this by getting black unmarked SUVs together, equipped with wrong license plates so he could not be identified, and would roll up to the homes of these two proud citizens and threatened them in the cover of darkness.

Also, Sheriff Arpaio illegally entered their homes; he threatened that he would take them to jail and hurt them badly unless they gave him all the evidence they had on his crimes. Their courage held and they refused. Sheriff Arpaio made good on his words and dragged them to jail.

When the story broke that two innocent men were being held by a fascist County Sheriff the nation exploded in an uproar. It was only underneath this pressure that Sheriff Arpaio released these two gentlemen.

After these events, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin with Sue the Maricopa County and win in a lawsuit of $3.75 million. They would use this money to help fund organizations that wanted to promote immigrant rights and raise awareness so protestors could march freely.
